Charitable Contributions from 403(b) RMDs

Q: Can you make charitable contributions from required minimum distributions (RMDs) from 403(b)s?

A: Yes — in fact, once the RMD has been made, reported on Form 1099, and taxes paid, it can be the source of a charitable contributions. More importantly, you also have the right, at and after your required beginning date, to directly transfer up to $100,000 to a qualified charity. That transfer directly to the charity satisfies your RMD requirement, and it is tax-free!
