NTSA Elite Advisor Winners Honored at 403(b) Summit

The 10 finalists for the 2015 NTSA Elite Advisor Award, including the five winners, were honored on June 29 during a ceremony at the NTSA 403(b) Summit in Nashville.

The five winners of the 2015 award are:

  • Kathryn Cawley of The Voyager Group, Ltd, Joliet, Ill.
  • Louis Deppas of The Legend Group, Lakewood, N.Y.
  • Jody Detillier of Detillier Financial Advisors, LLC, New Orleans, La.
  • Lyle Uyeda of Chinen & Arinaga Financial Group, Mililani, Hawaii
  • Richard Williams of Williams & Company, Grandville, Mich.
While the award is just in its second year, several winners said they view the award as a high honor and recognition of their long record of success in the industry.

Lyle Uyeda, Vice President of the Chinen & Arinaga Financial Group, traveled more than 10 hours from suburban Honolulu to Nashville to accept the honor. He said he didn’t expect to win the award, but that the honor makes him feel like his hard work has been validated. “Winning gives me more of a sense of pride,” he said, “that what I have been doing is on the right track, and it motivates me to continue doing what I’m doing to help teachers.”

Jody Detillier, with Detillier Financial Advisors, LLC, said that he was excited to be honored as well, and added that the designation will help him grow his business. “If I’m going into both new and old districts to try and grow my client base, having this Elite Advisor award is a major asset to have,” he said. “It sets me apart to say, ‘I’ve been recognized with this award by NTSA,’ when my competitors may not be NTSA members in the first place.”

The 10 finalists were whittled down earlier in June from a list of 30 semifinalists. Kristine J. Coffey, who chairs the NTSA Elite Advisor Award committee, said the 30 semifinalists represented the very best of the industry, noting that they:

  • have a combined 685 years of experience servicing retirement plans;
  • serve 1,260 school districts and 29,319 individual participants;
  • manage a total of $3.5 billion in assets; and
  • hold 54 professional credentials collectively.
Florida had the highest number of semifinalists, she said, followed by New York, Texas, California and Georgia.

“These honorees show the industry, and Congress, and our state legislators, what competence, experience, expertise and leadership is all about,” Coffey said.
